"Stafford, CA - On the evening of the Winter Solstice,
Monday, December 21, tree-sitter Julia Butterfly Hill plans
to illuminate the ancient redwood tree Luna, which she has
occupied for over one year in an effort to save it from the
chainsaws of the Pacific Lumber Company/Maxxam. Supporters
of the tree-sit have donated dozens of flashing beacons,
each with a range of over two miles, which will make the
lights clearly visible from State Highway 101 in the
Stafford area. This effort will make Luna the largest,
oldest, living Christmas tree in the world." (December 21, 1998)

Julia Butterfly Hill, an extraordinary woman, has taken roost 180 feet up in an ancient redwood tree, Luna, which sprouted during the last millennium. Julia has not set foot on the ground yet in 1998. She is protesting the S&L-looting;, Redwood Extincter Charles Hurwitz and his MAXXAM Corp. which took over the Pacific Lumber company in the mid-80s and has proceeded to liquidate the last of the old-growth redwood groves, except the stands which comprise the Headwaters Forest complex.
