Cascadian EF! Redezvous May 26-29 |
Nearby wilderness and threatened roadless areas (guided hikes and blatant attempts of recruitment), swimmin', tubin', workshops on this an' that, socializin', both kinds of sex (if yer lucky), plottin' and conspirin' and all kinds of fun.
Consider this a personal invitation to spend the Memorial weekend memorably in the heart of Southern Cascadia with a couple hundred of your closest friends and a half-dozen infiltrators trying to blend.
Generally from Friday May 26 to Monday the 29th. Feel free to come early and stay late. Plenty of fun in forest and town, as this is the middle of the Eugene Act of Existence, somewhere between 7 and 9 weeks of fun, action, and close encounters of the police kind (for more on this call 541/684-8977 or look at www.ecoecho.org ).
Rigdon Meadow, on the beautiful Middle Fork Willamette River, about 30 miles upstream from the town of Oakridge. From I-5 take exit 188 (just south of Eugene) east to Oakridge, about 40 miles. Pass out the otherside about a mile and take the right just after Dink's Market (last beer stop) onto Forest Service Road 21, heading toward Hills Creek Reservoir Take another right just after you cross Salt Creek (this should all be FS 21) and carry on for about 23 miles to Mile 24 post. Look for the Sacandaga sign and road dropping off to the right. As Brother Brigham said, "This is the place", even if what he was looking at wasn't as pretty then and sucks bad now.
What you'll need:
Some means of gettin' here. If you make it to Eugene, you might call that # up a few paragraphs and try your luck. There are trains that go from Eugene through Oakridge as well. Bring food; we prize self-reliance above all, and the local FNB has been takin' care of the 9-Weekers. There will be group kitchens and potlucks for sure. So, personal refreshments and recreational supplements, musical instruments, sun screen, bug juice, inner tube, frizbee, good boots, and the usual evil intent toward the the Empire. But not your dog. Or that drum if you don't know how to work it (people wouldn't want you poundin' on a piano if you didn't know how to play). So now you have your instructions; you've got 4 weeks to get here. If you're walkin', better start soon.
